Sunlit afternoon
Olive skin touched by the sun
Incense lingering

Nap
A slumbering fade
lips become quiet, and there is no malice
falling away into a nap
Thoughts process the distant Winter scene.
penniless and alone
forgoing family and friends for my words
A lost tired human
walking along rows of Christmas cosiness
wishing for pennies
Dreaming of the life I would lead with you.
lost to the four winds
feeling the nap recede into the afternoon
Sunday Rain
emotional clouds
heavy with the grey of now
hiding the sunset
issues faced on Sunday night
The dread falls within the rain
Garden Party
Soft garden party
Grandma spiked the stock last night
They can’t stop laughing
a giggly bubble wild lunch
lost in the afternoon haze
Sunday
remnants of plunger coffee
the washing and dryer blues
empty pegs on the clothesline
the moments of reflection
a longing for the rain clouds
this land cries out in the drought
burnt by the sun in winter
a fleeting glimpse of freedom
the sun makes way for the frost
Quiet Music
A Sunday afternoon longing and a yearning for those fragments of what I thought I was before I took this path.
Rain droplets splatter the glass of my window, so I raise the blind to see the wind moving the unkempt grass, and I watch the droplets run down the glass.
I gather all of the friends from my dreams I have not yet met, and I hold them close to me like the ghosts of the loved ones who died.
Rain droplets continue to splatter the glass of my window, and the wind and the rain create music I often long to hear.
I revel in the quickening rain which showers the glass of my window, the increasing wind, and I wish for more of this quiet music.
Sunday Afternoon
To ponder the wind moving the grass. A sense of grace moves through the quiet places of our home.
Not one for religion, yet there is a sense of peace in a church where everyone is welcome.
My thoughts feed the Sunday night existential dread.
I sit and ponder.
You, Me, Sunday
A grey Sunday
We sit on the couch
Potato Chips
Cups of tea and coffee
Matching robes
We munch the day away
Watching shows
Beginnings & Endings
Waiting for the microwave to finish,
lunch will end soon,
watching the time tick the day away,
dinner will start soon,
wishing for something to start,
hoping for something to end.
You began, then you end,
I begin, then I will end;
we will all begin and end.
Sea Glass & Sandstone
Wading in the sea glass and the sandstone,
look for the place where you used to stand,
thinking back to every time we came here.
An image of you returns.
I cannot remove that image from my mind;
you continue haunting
my life, my mind, and this place of our own.
Wading with only beautiful memories of you,
hearing the bombs fall,
my heart and my mind yearn to see you again.
