I have been sitting at my computer, floating away in the afternoon sun, looking at the unmowed lawn in the backyard.
It’s nice to take some time to watch without having a deadline, although the backyard looks alive and full of nippy insects.
Saturday is going too fast.
A pocketful of promises,
given without proper thought.
All promises were now broken,
glowing sadly in the darkness.
Another love’s life touched;
Another hurt, grief-stricken heart.
Yellow and blue kitchen tiles,
that old stainless steel sink and tap.
Odd porcelain cups, saucers and plates,
that kitchen bench with roses in a vase.
Strawberry rhubarb pie in the wood oven,
sitting with Mum at her favourite spot.
Once, we used to fight and debate;
now we talk in distilled nuances.
It’s as if we’ve given up the fight.
I miss those days of fire,
when we were young.
clear, cool winter sky
revealing hidden colours
only for my eyes
A quick cheeky wink
Hoping for love’s first nibble
A quick side-eye glance
Discovering a partner
Feeling sorry for yourself
A beautiful bird,
having a flutter not far from me.
Looking upward,
such beautiful colours & song.
Thinking kind thoughts,
paintings appear behind my eyes.
Lost in deep thought,
a wet feeling on my shoulder.
The bird took a shit on my shoulder;
sad on the way home.
When all the prompts fail me,
when there is no inspiration,
I turn to you: music.
When I feel the words fading,
when the poetry sounds odd,
I turn to play a song.
When I turn, something comes.
The forest is full of the sounds of snow-covered trees, scurrying creatures, and the hoot of an owl.
By the lambent glow of the lamp, a witch walks along carrying a song to the trees, the snow, and the Earth.
As she walks, trees bow, creatures dance, and the owl nods.
The rain begins to fall. The cold wind moves through your hair as you watch the person you love descend into the soil.
The raindrops roll down your pale face as you hear a song you both loved.
No longer visible, the wind blows as the music comes to an end and you walk away.
