Grumpy Buttons

Intricate buttons
skirmish with the little loops
Haphazard dressing
Angry energy rising
Ripping and throwing buttons

the light from within
slowly cloaked by the darkness
yet the light remains

droplets of coffee
mixing with a dark desire
to be at the top

the light flickers low
slowly, the candle burns low
darkness is coming

a broken pump heel
filth from the competition
in the next office

light re-emerging
candle finds a way to burn
you walk your own path

the weight of being tired
washing great oceans over me
moving within the waves

sinking into the depths
an unconscious state of calmness
the weight from my shoulders

chatting with a rook
a collection of sorrows
watching every move

an expression of elegance
the dinner party of the decade

no riff-raff or new money
the party required no invitations

assorted cummerbunds
adorn the figures of the ladies

frocks and opera pumps
caress the muscles of the men

the imagining
of a war through the prism of
the old movie screen
they watch, and the terror comes
the sickness of gluttony

two by the river
a hero ready to fight
something creeps closer
distracted by the pussy
the hero’s hamartia

wispy sun-filled day
a boxer and fresh coffee
fumes from the tabby

The puddle splashing
She loves to jump for the leaves
a jovial soul
As the years passed, she slowed down
The urge to Heel warmed my heart

a paw to the flag
meowing the national anthem
a fluffy patriot
