The Imagined Sea

14/04/202417/08/2025 C and K WordsLeave a comment

Standing sideways to what was once the sea
imaginary wavelets lap at my dirt-covered feet

Sedimentary rocks hide traces of crustaceans
the breeze moves the trees, & stirs the unseen

Saltwater jewels adorn my ears, wrists, & neck
imaginary saltwater washes over me, the land

Blooming Reverie

13/04/202417/08/2025 C and K Words2 Comments

A warm breeze moves through
the garden and the blooming trees.

Hair becomes waves of the sea,
cloth caressing skin becomes caged wings.

A Crow visits her favourite tree
with a plastic milk bottle lid for kindness.

Lost within the romance of Spring,
drifting away.

Before we forget

11/04/2024 C and K WordsLeave a comment

Early darkness
a chill brings on the gooseflesh
endless music

jewels from you
overflowing books in the case
scrolling down

stopping short
help me to glue all of the memories
of me and you

before we forget
what it was like to live in freedom
with our ideas

and our love

Stormy Ship

Clouds are gathering
the captain waits for no one
giant angry waves
the crew prepare for the worst
waltz of the sea and the ship

Slowing Down

25/03/202426/03/2024 C and K WordsLeave a comment

We begin to slow in Autumn as the days shorten and the nights lengthen.

Salads turn to casseroles, and coffee turns to rum.

We find our cosy corner, a stack of books, and turn day after day into night.

When the rains come, we wear our favourite socks; we slow down.

Sunny Canvas

23/03/202422/03/2024 C and K WordsLeave a comment

Too much red and yellow
blazing sun on the canvas
chunks of paint melting

The spectre of burning canvas
paint strokes are inevitable
Embers fall from the old easel

Time for the sun to appear
smouldering fire of paint and canvas
The painting comes to life

Morning Grass

morning frosty grass
barefoot walking to the fence
my feet are stained green
tip-toeing to the kitchen
embracing my black kettle

Happy World Poetry Day!
